Enquire about Sue Whimster

Sue trained as a sculptor, initially at Leeds then Exeter College of Art. Later Sue ran an Art Department in an East London School ( on the Isle of Dogs!)
Whilst teaching there she attended in-service training at Goldsmiths College, where discovering the joys of hand-building in clay, but it wasn’t until leaving teaching after the birth of my second child, that she was able to set up my workshop.

Sue bought her first kiln with money lent by my mother-in-law, and each night after putting the children to bed started to work. In the midst of child rearing was naturally influenced by children’s books and nursery rhymes. Trips to Stoke Museum and Art Galleries collection of wonderful Staffordshire pots, sparked off the desire in her to make hand-built ceramic pieces with some of their quirky individuality, with ideas from illustrations, nursery rhymes, trips to London Zoo and our local park.

Starting out at Covent Garden Craft Market, Sue sells to shops and galleries in London and the South of England and work on private commissions.
