‘Fur and Feather’ Exhibition

Beginning on 18th March – May 2012

Claire A Milner- Featured Artist

Claire Milner artist from Ryedale has an interest in portraiture having created portraits for Gordon Brown and Nigel Lawson, she has created art for celebrity clients such as R&B star Rihanna and for large corporations and publishing companies. Her current works cover subjects including iconic portraits, animals and landscapes in precious Swarovski crystal and mixed media. Chosen by BBC Dragon Theo Paphitis as a Small Business prize winner. She searches for beauty and meaning in minute detail and the big picture simultaneously. Incorporated into her work small texts which give information about the subject, and/or deliver a secondary or subversive message.

Matthew and Louise Dwyer of the Saltbox Gallery provides a showcase for all applied art and contemporary crafts including their own work; as artist blacksmith and jeweller. “We are selecting new pieces and curating exhibitions for the coming year, starting with early spring the gallery will feature new artists Claire A Milner, Tom Marine and Christine Relton from Yorkshire. It is exciting to find such a range of work in our local area and to feature artists who are so inspired by the scenes around them and whom also show internationally.”

Clare Caulfield

Currently on Show in the Saltbox

Clare Caulfield from Bradford enjoyed her year at Bradford College where she completed her Foundation Studies in Art & Design. Introduced to experiment with new techniques and processes and to develop creatively in completely new disciplines including illustration and screenprinting, both of which feature very strongly in her work today as an artist and printmaker. Clare has studied at Bradford College and moved to Staffordshire University to complete her first class degree. She developed new techniques and processes that are a signature in her work. Clare uses watercolour, pencil and collage in the originals. The style of her line drawing and use of mark making that is strongly recognised also in her drypoints and screenprints. Drawing has
always been a very important part of Clare’s work. She is fascinated by architecture local coastal towns such as Staithes, Whitby, and Robin Hoods Bay, which depict a birds eye view of a fishing village, market place, New York Flat Iron Building or Parisian life outside a brightly canopied pavement cafe, from which she strives to create spontaneous lively linework. Clare’s work is on
show until April 7th 2012.

Claire West- Featured Artist

Claire is a painter where she gains inspiration from everyday objects and surroundings. More important than the objects the theme of Claire’s paintings are the colour and their contrasts. She enjoys using a combination of colours which conventionally are believed not to work. Her aim is to produce art that is uplifting and energetic to the viewer.

Leading us into Spring with our new exhibition ‘Fur and Feather’. On show will be some  wonderful works of art, including work by Claire Milner, Janine Roper, Chris Moss, Claire West, Ian Scott Massie, Helen Thompson,  Kitty Jones, Lesley Birch, Kevin Maddison, Emma Palmer, Steve  Gosling and many more…..

We are holding an Opening Preview for the Show on Sunday 18th March from 12:00pm- 4:00pm. We really hope you can come along and enjoy first viewing of the beautiful works of Art that will be on display in the Saltbox!
